Why Consider Mediation?

Mediation is a process whereby parties meet with a third-party neutral
mediator, usually an attorney, who will attempt to assist them in resolving
the issues that may exist regarding asset and debt division, maintenance,
child custody, child support, and the payment of attorneys fees. Frequently,
the mediation process will be attorney-assisted, meaning each party would be
accompanied by their respective attorneys, although mediation does not have
to be attorney-assisted. We have found that, in most cases, mediation is most
effective after the parties have exchanged some information, documents, or
answers to discovery. Mediation is a way to resolve issues in a case without
the additional expense and stress of having a trial.

Richard Van Pelt is a trained mediator and has taken hundreds of clients
through mediation with a third-party mediator. Many times, cases are settled
in mediation or, even if they are not settled, the issues facing the parties will
be significantly reduced, usually saving time and money for the parties.
